Powerless...

POWERLESS…I hate being powerless. There are moments in life when we are simply outmatched. Bills become greater than our income…disruption becomes greater than our ability to breathe peace…chaos undermines our plans faster then we can instill direction…discouragement becomes greater than our energy …etc. etc. I even hate it when someone makes a snide remark and I can’t even find a good come-back…too brain-dead to go tit-for-tat with a friend in the halls of church. Bumping up against our limitations is part of our adult learning, isn’t it. When these moments are visiting me in living color…I like this verse.
“Oh Lord, no one but you can help the powerless against the mighty!”
~II Chronicles 14:11

This is one of the great benefits of being on friendly speaking terms with God Himself. When we are powerless…we aren’t really powerless. In other words, when we come to the end of our abilities…it doesn’t mean we are at the end. Beneath us is God. Around us is God. Within us is God. God is consumed with our life and our present challenges. And God has no idea what it’s like to be powerless. However dark and impossible our present challenge looks, we are never without options and power. Our only problem is that we don’t know what they are. Our problem is that we only see our resources, and how futile they can be. When we see no answer, He see’s 10,000. Are you facing a mighty problem and completely powerless to address it? No you’re not!

  2. 2 Chronicles 14:11And Asa(A) cried to the LORD his God, "O LORD, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O LORD our God,(B) for we rely on you,(C) and in your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let not man prevail against you."

2 Chronicles 16:7At that time(A) Hanani(B) the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him,(C) "Because you relied on the king of Syria, and did not rely on the LORD your God, the army of the king of Syria has escaped you.

Surrender (To God) goes in this learning curve with the realization of powerlessness... Often in our struggles we try to fix things ourselves. Making it happen in our way vs. letting it happen in God's way. Frankly speaking, some things cant' be fixed by us. Defeat is in the not accepting of that, and regardless of our Blinding reason prone to failure. The simplicity of this becomes even more elusive if we are articulate and well educated. "We think we know something" becomes the true enemy in ourselves blocking success...

I love your sermon last Sunday....The river at flood stage preventing our boys from the promise land was lowered by God so they could enter...But our boys pace at each step was at God's pace one step at a time...Not the other way around...Step too fast, carried away with the worldly currents...At God's pace delivered in safety, Glory His, and at his time......

I must admit I must relearn this lesson daily in and of surrender to God..Forgeting leeds to personal brokeness. Acceptance of my powelessnes in surrender of.. is the only thing that Works... Somethings only God's works can keep fixed.(My life) Keeping it that way means at his pace one step at a time..
